Rosario Dawson May Be Done with the Marvel Universe while Filming Her Last Scene in ‘Luke Cage’ on Netflix

Rosario Dawson has become a staple in the Marvel/Netflix universe with her character, Claire Temple – a former nurse. Starting her role in Daredevil, she gradually makes her way to another hit Netflix series, Luke Cage. Dawson has also reprised her role in Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Defenders.

Now, she is ready to move on to the next chapter. After filming what seems like her last scene for season two, Dawson wanted to end it just right. “I felt really grateful because Cheo Hodari Coker was the showrunner, and it was kind of looking like, at least for that season, who knows if I’ll come back again?” Dawson said. “This was looking like it was going to be a big final scene for Claire, and it was really a culmination of three years and being on five different shows.”

The breakup scene was also the last scene between Cage and Temple. However, Dawson did not like how one-sided it was. “When the scene was first written, to be honest, it was a little bit more written on his side and his storyline and that kind of stuff,” she said. “And I approached Cheo and had the audacity of adding some lines and rewriting some stuff and asked him if that could work.”

Luke Cage creator, Cheo Hodari Coker, was more in agreement to Dawson’s changes. She said, “he gave me a really amazing compliment — he said, ‘You want to join the writers’ room? Because this is great.’”

Dawson will certainly miss playing Claire Temple whom she found a great deal of bravery and solace in. She said Claire “means a lot because you don’t have to have special superpowers to make a difference and an impact in your community and to challenge yourself to grow and to be greater. She just really inspired me a lot.”

As she says goodbye to all five shows, there is one, in particular, Dawson would have liked to be on. “The Punisher was always the one I really loved — I couldn’t believe I wasn’t on that one,” Dawson said.
