Rob McElhenney to Star in Apple TV+ Gaming Comedy ‘Mythic Quest’

Earlier today, Apple TV+ released the first trailer for its new comedy being produced by Ubisoft titled Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. The series, starring It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob McElhenney, follows the story of a self-centered director of a video game studio and will premiere in early February.

Mythic Quest centers around Ian Grimm, played by McElhenney, as he attempts to successfully lead his team of video game developers in creating the online role-playing game Mythic Quest. The trailer makes it clear that Grimm isn’t the best leader, however; the opening narration states that “in a world of legendary heroes, one man will rise to take all… of the credit.” The trailer continues to highlight the performances of the rest of the cast, which features Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham, Danny Pudi of Community, Imani Hakim, Charlotte Nicdao, Ashly Burch, Jessie Ennis and David Hornsby, who produced and starred alongside McElhenney on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

This isn’t the first teaser that audiences have gotten for Mythic Quest, however. The comedy was ordered straight to series by Apple in 2018, and at the most recent E3 video game convention, Ubisoft and McElhenney unveiled the series during their annual showcase. The presentation “featured McElhenney’s character showing off a commercial for the game that is focused entirely on himself, including a sweeping shot of Grimm standing shirtless.”

The series is executive produced by McElhenney and fellow It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day. In addition to Apple, Lionsgate, 3 Arts, and Ubisoft are all involved in production. Ubisoft is also reportedly branching out into the world of television and film in other ways, as reports from The Hollywood Reporter confirm that the video game company will be pursuing multiple TV adaptations of its video game franchises, including Rabbids and Watch Dogs.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on February 7th of this year. The series is currently confirmed for nine episodes in its first season. You can watch the trailer for Mythic Quest below.
