Rick Riordan Confirms Work Has Started on the Second Season of ‘Percy Jackson’

The Greek mythology adventures continue. According to Comicbook, Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan (The Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase, and the Gods of Asgard) confirmed through his blog that writers have started penning the scripts for the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The show’s first season has been in development for over three years and will premiere sometime in 2024.

According to Comicbook, Riordan revealed that while the first season of the show moves further along in the post-production process, writing has started for the second season of the show. Riordan made sure to clarify that while scripts are being worked on for season two, Disney hasn’t green-lighted the second season. He explained that “It’s too early for that” but that the writers are working ahead on the expectation that if season one goes as planned, a second season will be approved.

Most of the main cast has been announced with Percy Jackson being played by Walker Scobell (The Adam Project, Secret Headquarters); Leah Jeffries (Empire, Beast) starring as Annabeth Chase; and Aryan Simhadri (Cheaper by the Dozen, The Casagrandes) will be Grover Underwood. Other supporting characters include Charlie Bushnell (Diary of Future President) as Luke Castellan; Glynn Turman (The Devil You Know, Black-ish) as Chiron the trainer of heroes; Dior Goodjohn (Head of the Class, Raven’s Home) as Clarisse LaRue; Jessica Parker Kennedy (Black Sails, The Flash) will star as the Greek monster Medusa; Virginia Kull (Big Little Lies, The Looming Tower) as Sally Jackson, Percy’s mother, and Timm Sharp (On the Verge, Together Together) will play Gabe Ugliano, Percy’s mean stepfather.

The cast members playing Greek gods include Toby Stephens (Lost in Space, Black Sails) playing Poseidon, the Greek god of the seas; the late Lance Reddick (John Wick, Bosch) will star as the all-mighty Zeus, the leader of the Greek gods and god of the skies; Adam Copeland (Vikings, Money Plane) plays the god of war Ares; Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, His Dark Materials) as the messenger god Hermes; Jason Mantzoukas (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Close Enough) as the god of wine Dionysus; Jay Duplass (Transparent, The Mindy Project) as the god of the Underworld Hades, and Timothy Omundson (This Is Us, Psych) as the god of blacksmiths Hephaestus.

The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be based on the second book in the series The Sea of Monsters. The second installment will throw the three protagonists further into Greek Mythology as they attempt to gain possession of the Golden Fleece. The second season will also include the appearance of new characters, like the cyclops Tyson, and will further develop some of the characters already introduced in season one like Clarisse LaRue and Luke Castellan.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2024. The Percy Jackson films are available to watch on Disney+.
