The summer just got a little more wild. Adult Swim announced on Tuesday that Rick and Morty season five will be arriving on June 20, in addition to releasing a new trailer, via Entertainment Weekly.
All good things come to those who wait. After season four of Rick and Morty aired last May, season five hit many roadblocks as COVID-19 shut down in-person production. But it didn’t deter the cast and crew of Rick and Morty, and they were able to record voice work virtually throughout the pandemic. Now the waiting has paid off as the first episode of season five will premiere Sunday, June 20, at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Adult Swim.
An adult cartoon, the series follows the wild escapades of mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty as they travel across space and time on dangerous adventures. Rick lives with his daughter Beth’s family, and along with her husband Jerry and their daughter Summer, they’re always dragged into whatever trouble Rick and Morty get themselves into.
Both Rick and Morty is voiced by co-creator of the series Justin Roiland (Solar Opposites). Beth is voiced by Sarah Chalke (Firefly Lane), Jerry is played by Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock), and Spencer Grammer (Greek) voices sulky teenager Summer.
In the new trailer released for Season five, Rick and Morty are once again up to their no good shenanigans. As usual, they pull the rest of their family into their dangerous outings, including riding spaceships and bringing alien type creatures down to earth. When one of those strange creatures arrives at the house, Jerry, in typical fashion, calls 911 and says:“Police? A strange horny ocean man is on my lawn.” Just a typical day in Rick and Morty land.
Seasons one-four of Rick and Morty are available to stream on HBO Max. Watch the trailer for Season five below:
