According to Comicbook.com, Cartoon Network fans can expect more properties from yet another classic show. Warner Bros. revealed that Regular Show will be returning to Cartoon Network in the near future.
This announcement comes right after Warner Brothers greenlit a brand new Adventure Time film adaptation, as well as two spin-off series, reflecting clear effort on the part of Cartoon Network to expand. As reported by Comicbook.com, few details about the new Regular Show series have been revealed; however, Warner Bros. did offer some interesting tidbits regarding its return. Warner Bros. confirmed that the original creator of Regular Show, J.G. Quintel (Close Enough, Flapjack), is returning to helm its return, so fans who grew up with the series can rest assured the new adaptation is in good hands.
The original Cartoon Network series, which debuted in 2010, spanned eight seasons and 250 episodes. The beloved animated series follows Mordecai, a blue jay, voiced by creator Quintel, and Rigby, a raccoon, voiced by William Saylers (Spider-Man, Moral Orel). The pair are 23-year-old best friends and work as groundskeepers at a local park. The show follows their often mindless adventures and clashes with other characters, including Skips, voiced by Mark Hamill (The Fall of the House of Usher, Star Wars), Muscle Man, Pops and Hi-Five Ghost, all also voiced by Quintel and Benson, voiced by Sam Marin (Tangled, The Princess and the Frog).
The series previously received a movie adaptation that aired on Cartoon Network in 2015 and followed Mordecai and Rigby as they attempt to defeat an evil volleyball coach in order to save the universe. While it is unclear which characters and voice actors will be returning and what events the new series will follow, fans can expect a different tone from the adaptation should it follow the events of the original series. As Comicbook.com notes, Regular Show ended in 2017 with the immature duo of best friends finally “growing up” and leaving the park in order to start their own families and lives.
While fans wait for Regular Show to return, all eight seasons are available to stream on Hulu.
