As announced by Deadline, a TV series based on Kate Andersen Brower’s bestseller First Women: The Grace & Power Of America’s Modern First Ladies, is in the works.
Reese Witherspoon will produce via Pacific Standard along with Michael Sugar of Anonymous Content, and burn Papandrea. Robin Wright of House Of Cards is to direct and executive produce alongside Anonymous Content’s Ashley Zalta and Doreen Wilcox-Little are co-executive producers. Wright made her directorial debut on House of Cards, and has since directed seven episodes of the show.
First Women was published April 12 by HarperCollins and is a look into the powerful grace of the First Ladies, spanning from Jackie Kennedy to Rosalyn Carter to Michelle Obama. It focuses on the underestimated role of the First Lady, shedding light on the impact many of these women have made. Author Brower is a former White House reporter for Bloomberg News who covered the Obama administration, as well as a former CBS News staffer and Fox News producer.
The news of this series comes in a timely fashion, as former First Lady, Hillary Clinton, is now the Democratic nominee who may very likely become the first female U.S. President.
