‘Ray Donovan’ Canceled By Showtime After Seven Seasons

With the beginning of the end of an era at Showtime, the Liev Schreiber-led series Ray Donovan has been canceled after seven seasons. The news comes after the seventh season aired on Jan. 19 with a cliffhanger, which will now serve as the series finale.

The popular drama follows the story of Schreiber’s character Ray Donovan who is a fixer for rich and famous in Los Angeles and New York. The show was created by Ann Biderman and the cast also included Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Pooch Hall, Steven Bauer, Jon Voight, and Graham Rogers.

The decision to cancel the series also came after Gary Levine, co-head of entertainment at Showtime, mentioned during a press tour in January that the series was towards the end of its run, noting the show was always meant to run “about seven or eight seasons.” Prior to this announcement, Schreiber had been using his Instagram feed to urge fans of the show to tell Showtime and parent company CBS that they want a season eight.

“After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime,” the network said in a statement on Tuesday. “We are proud that the series ended amid such strong viewership and on such a powerful note. Our deepest thanks go to Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, showrunner David Hollander and the entire cast and crew, past and present, for their dedicated work.”

The series was one of Showtimes longest running shows with 82 episodes and 10 Emmy nominations. The premium cable network will also be saying goodbye to originals, Homeland, after eight seasons, and Shameless, after eleventh seasons.

After the announcement Schreiber posted a picture of his character on Instagram with the caption, “Slainte.”
