According to Deadline, Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Mandalorian)’s new Disney+ series, Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, decided on three of its leads: Mykal-Michelle Harris (Raven’s Home, Mixed-ish), Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Skeleton Crew, Encanto), and Ryder Allen (Palmer, The Penguin). The series is an animation/live-action hybrid about self-absorbed, cheeky bunny, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, from producer, director, and writer Favreau for Walt Disney Studios.
Harris will play Jen, who is an artistic and creative middle schooler ahead of the game. Cabot-Conyers will play Jake, who is a hardworking and determined middle school student with a good heart. Allen will play Taylor, who is a cautious middle school student but never turns down his friends, Deadline states.
Deadline notes that the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon is very important to the Walt Disney Co., bearing close resemblance to Mickey Mouse. He has a fractured history with the company and has played a crucial role in creating Disney’s most famous animated character. Oswald was created back in 1927 by Walt Disney and was featured in 27 animated shorts, but following Universal’s takeover of the character in 1928, Disney created Mickey Mouse as a character replacement.
Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, has prioritized the mission of bringing Oswald home, and in 2006, The Walt Disney Co., successfully acquired the trademark. This character entered the public domain in 2023, via Deadline.
Harris is well known for her work alongside Nicole Kidman in HBO’S Big Little Lies, ABC’s Mixed-ish as Santamonica Johnson, young Raven-Symoné in Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home, and Showtime’s The Affair. OPE Partners, The Osbrink Agency, and Del Shaw represent her, as mentioned by Deadline.
Cabot-Conyers’ recent played Wim in the Disney+ series Skeleton Crew, Leo in the feature thriller Grassland, and voiced Antonio in the hit Disney animated film Encanto. He is repped by Paradigm, Entertainment 360, and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Deadline adds.
Allen’s recent credits include playing a young Oswald Cobblepott, opposite Colin Farrell (The Penguin, The Batman) as older Oz, in HBO Max’s The Penguin. He also played Sam in the Apple film Palmer, led by Justin Timberlake (Trolls, The Social Network). He is repped by Paradigm and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller et al, Deadline affirmed.
