Ramy Youssef Lands Exclusive Deal With A24

Ramy Youssef, the Golden Globe-nominated creator, writer, director and star of Hulu’s hit Ramy has signed an overall deal with the show’s producer, A24.  Youssef already has projects in progress with Apple and Netflix under the multiple-year pact, and already has two additional shows in the works for A24.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Youssef spoke about his deal with A24 as well as his Apple and Netflix shows.

“What’s been awesome is the relationship I’ve been able to build with A24 because we’ve made this show [Ramy] together and they know how I feel about the things I’d like to do in the TV space that go beyond my show.  For the next couple years, we have a continued partnership. I have an overall with them where we’ll be making more things.”

Youssef also added that the A24 deal will assist in the creative process that started while in high school when he and his friends would collaborate on various projects.

Youssef stated with regards to the longevity of Ramy, he envisions the series as having the legs to run up to four or five seasons.  “Our original window was three to four [seasons]…[but] as I’ve seen other characters, I know we have some more runway.… I want to really pace it out and make sure I feel close to the characters. I’d love to take a few years off then catch up with the character. It’ll be cool to see how it shakes out.”

Ramy is currently under its season two production in New York.  It’s been said that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will have multiple-episode guest arc on the series after Ali personally reached out to Youssef as a fan, as well as a fellow Muslim.  Youssef also previews in The Hollywood Reporter interview further details about Ali’s upcoming storyline.
