Hit Series ‘Mr. Robot’ Comes To An End Month With A Surprising Finale *Spoilers*

Mr. Robot is a drama television series written by Sam Esmail that airs on USA Network. It stars Rami Malek, as Elliot Alderson, a computer science engineer and hacker with social anxiety disorder and clinical depression. Elliot is recruited by an anarchist known as “Mr. Robot”, played by Christian Slater, to join a group of activist hackers called “fsociety”. The group aims to destroy all debt records by encrypting the financial data of E Corp, the largest conglomerate in the world.

This series was a surprise hit for USA and truly launched the careers of both creator Sam Esmail and star Rami Malek. The first season gathered over a million viewers, making it USA Networks most viewed show. Sam originally planned to make Mr. Robot into a movie, but the screenplay was way too long so he turned it into a TV series instead. Esmail is now making a Battlestar Gallactica series for NC and is producing more personal projects. Rami Malek has gone on from this show to star as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and is the villain in the upcoming James Bond movie, No Time To Die. Malek also won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance on Mr Robot, he later won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Bohemian Rhapsody.

In the final season Elliot was trying to deactivate Whiterose’s machine, which she claimed could rewrite reality to make a better world. It turns out this is an alternate universe created to keep Elliot safe from harm. Elliot seems much happier, Mr Robot keeps trying to tell him that he is in an alternate reality, but he doesn’t want to believe it because in this reality his girlfriend is alive and wants to get married. We see a scene where Elliot is at the wedding and all of the guests are wearing Fsociety masks and then their heads turn into Mr Robot’s head.

Later in the finale when Elliot is talking to his therapist she discusses his multiple personalities and we learn that the Elliot that we have gotten to know was not Elliot Alderson, but an unnamed, angry alternate personality who had hijacked the real Elliot’s body for the last year.

“a personality created to carry Elliot’s rage, the vigilante hacker Elliot always imagined being, the one who sought vengeance, the personality that had gained so much control he forgot he was only just a personality: the mastermind. And now it’s time for you to give that control back to the host: the real Elliot.” Elliot wakes up in a hospital and the alternate universe is gone.

Elliot asks Darlene if this life  is real and she replies “I’m telling you, this is real. I was there with you through all of it: fsociety, our hack on E Corp, Five/Nine, you going to prison, the cyber bombings, us robbing those evil motherfuckers… I wouldn’t lie to you: this isn’t in your head. This is real.” Then Elliot stats to think that if this world is real maybe it is himself that isn’t fully real. At first his girlfriend can’t stand his multiple personality disorder, but he starts crying and then she seems more forgiving.
