Rainn Wilson Pitches ‘The Office’ Comeback Involving the Coronavirus

According to ScreenRant, Rainn Wilson (Galaxy Quest, Monsters vs. Aliens, The Meg), star of the television phenomenon The Office, pitches a possible comeback for the series that couldn’t have come at a better time. Wilson talks about rebooting the series this time with an unhinged and darker theme revolving around the workplace shutdowns during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Office was a smash hit sitcom series initially debuting in 2004, following the daily work lives of a assorted paper company employees with ensuing shenanigans from all-star cast members such as Steve Carrel (Despicable Me, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Evan Almighty), Ed Helms (The Hangover, Cedar Rapids, The Lorax), Craig Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine, This is the End, Bad Guys), and an abundance more including A-List guest stars throughout the show.

Wilson comes up with a unique new plotline involving his character Dwight Shrute, the acting Scranton Branch Manager, kidnapping his co-workers for some hijinx and hilarity after being forced to work online for a few years. Wilson talked about his ideas for a revival during an  interview on The Drew Barrymore Show. Full quote provided below:

“It would’ve been so much fun to film The Office during the pandemic. If we had pandemic episodes, that would’ve been amazing. The Office writers were so great — they would’ve been able to spin that in some beautiful ways. I think it would be: He gets the call from corporate to get everyone back in the office and everyone is resistant. So, one at a time, Dwight has to kidnap every Office cast member and bring them into Dunder Mifflin in some kind of obscure and somewhat inappropriate way.”

NBC explained that a reboot of The Office is definitely in the cards but is ultimately up to the series creators. Although Wilson’s intriguing idea of a revival kidnapping his good friends and coworkers all just to return to a mediocre office space sounds right up the show’s alley, hopefully creators will consider some of the possibilities of returning.
