‘Queen Sugar’ Gets Final Season Premiere Date at OWN

The seventh and final season of the critically acclaimed OWN series, Queen Sugar, has set September 6th premiere date, per the network’s Twitter page. Academy Award nominee Ava Duvernay (When They See Us) serves as the series creator and executive producer. Additional EPs of the series include Paul Garnes (Cherish the Day), two-time Academy Award nominee Oprah Winfrey (David Makes Man), and Shaz Bennett (UnReal), who will also serve as the season’s showrunner, per Deadline

Stars of Queen Sugar include Dawn-Lyen Gardner (God Friended Me) as Charley Bordelon, Rutina Wesley (True Blood) as Nova Bordelon, Kofi Siriboe (Insecure) as Ralph Angel Bordelon, Tina Lifford (Scandal) as Violet Bordelon, Omar J. Dorsey (Genius: Aretha) as Hollywood Desonier, and Bianca Lawson (Rogue) as Darla. Additional cast members include Nicholas L. Ashe (Bricked) as Micah West, Ethan Hutchison (The Tragedy of Macbeth) as Blue Bordelon, Henry G. Saunders (DMZ) as Prosper Denton, and Timon Kyle Durrett (Stuck With You) as Davis West. 

Queen Sugar has added four new stars for its final season, including Vanessa Bell Calloway (This Is Us), Lamman Rucker (Greenleaf), Emmy Award nominee Tracy Thoms (Station 19), and Kaci Walfall (Naomi). Returning guest stars include McKinley Freeman (Our Kind of People) as Dominic, Reagan Gomez-Preston (Black Monday) as Chantal, four-time Emmy Award nominee Sharon Lawrence (Home Before Dark) as Lorna, Brian Michael Smith (The L Word: Generation Q) as Toine, and Ann Nesby (Hap and Leonard) as Sandy. Additional guest stars include Emmy Award winner Glynn Turman (Women of the Movement) as Ernest Bordelon, Vivian Ngô (Shameless) as Trinh, Amirah Vann (Underground) as Parker Campbell, and Tanyell Waivers (Lace) as Keke. DuVernay will direct the series finale, as reported by Deadline

According to the OWN website, Oprah Winfrey will host “Queen Sugar: A Celebration Special,” a special episode with hopes of thanking its viewers through clips and interviews and reflecting on the series’s past six seasons. The special will air on Tuesday, August 9th at 9 PM EST. The previous six seasons are all available to stream on Hulu.
