TNT has halted production on The Last Ship at the request of star Eric Dane, in order to address personal issues.
According to Variety, production of the series’ fourth season has been put on hiatus through Memorial Day. Dane, who plays captain Tom Chandler on the series, has been very open about his personal issues, and previously entered a 30-day rehab program in 2011 to address his addiction to painkillers.
“Eric asked for a break to deal with personal issues,” a rep for Dane said. “He suffers from depression and has asked for a few weeks of downtime and the producers kindly granted that request. He looks forward to returning.”
TNT’s The Last Ship, based on William Brinkley’s novel, centers on the crew of Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James as they try and survive following a global disaster that wipes out a majority of the world’s population. The series is one of TNT’s top-rated programs, and has already been renewed for a fourth and fifth season. Season 4 and 5 have reportedly been shooting back to back with season 4 already finished, meaning the premiere of season 4 should not be delayed. Season 5 is expected to debut in summer 2018.
