Producer Scott Printz of ‘Private Practice’ and ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ Passes at 69

The producer and unit production manager who worked on all 12 seasons with Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal) of Private Practice, and How to Get With Murder has passed away. Scott Printz was only 69 years old.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Printz (Crooked Business, Charity Case) was born in Reading, Pennsylvania and started off his career as a Director’s Guild of America (DGA) trainee. He worked on such films as Better off Dead (1985) and Psycho III (1986).

The Hollywood Reporter continues his story by saying that Printz next became a second and/or first director on ABC’s The Wonder Years (1988-92), Fox’s Party of Five, and USA’s Monk. He had also worked on films such as Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (1991), Fools Rush In (1997), and Hitch (2005).

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Printz helped out in producing Shondaland and all six seasons (2007-2013) of the clinical drama Private Practice, and then all six of the law thriller How to Get Away With Murder. These 12 seasons had earned him an end credit on the second season on How to Get Away With Murder in 2008. Closer to his death, he has produced for two dramas called Truth Be Told on Apple TV and Bookie on HBO Max.

“There are only a couple of people I’ve worked with who were as knowledgeable about what all the departments did and what their needs were,” cinematographer Tim Suhrstedt said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Scott was extraordinarily intelligent and unfailingly honest. Production crews trusted and respected him.” Even his colleagues remembered Printz for his kindness, calm, and sweet demeanor. Andy Tennant adds that “Scott was a gentle, confident leader of the pack.”

Unfortunately, Shani Ginsberg, his wife announced that Printz died January 23, in Los Angeles. A cause of death and place of death has not been released yet.
