Prime Video released a new trailer for the upcoming TV adaptation of the classic horror novel Carrie, written by Steven King (It, Kujo). According to Variety, all eight episodes of the series will be released on Oct. 7.

King’s classic novel has been adapted various times, though there has not been an adaptation that was a television show. The series is a “bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother,” the logline says. “After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public high school, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.”

The previous adaptations of Carrie were a 1976 film of the same name, directed by Brian De Palma (Scarface, Carlito’s Way), a sequel film released in 1999 named The Rage: Carrie 2, directed by Katt Shea (Poison Ivy, Rescued By Ruby), and a remake of the 1976 film with the same name directed by Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry, Stop-Loss). There was also a television film created in 2002, which was directed by David Carson (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek Generations), which aired on NBC.

Carrie White will be played by Summer H. Howell (Hunter Hunter, Night of the Reaper), Sue Snell will be played by Siena Agudong (Upside-Down Magic, “Resident Evil”), and Principal Grayle will be played by Matthew Lillard (Scream, Five Nights at Freddy’s). Mike Flanagan, writer of The Haunting of Hill House and director of Doctor Sleep, will be the writer, executive producer, showrunner, and director of the series, with Trevor Macy (Hush, Gerald’s Game) executive producing and Amazon MGM Studios producing.

Howell is no stranger to the horror genre, previously appearing in Curse of Chucky, Cult of Chucky, and Hunter Hunter. Other actors in the series are also horror veterans such as Lillard, who plays Stu Macher in Scream , and Steve Raglan in Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Carrie will release with eight episodes and was reported to be in development in Oct. 2024 before being greenlit by Amazon in April 2025. For more information on the show, check out mxdwn’s article on the first looks on the series.
