Maxton Hall – The World Between Us, the hit German Prime Video series, is now renewed for second season, Deadline reports. This news comeas after it became the streamer’s most-watched international show of all time after only a week from its release.
According to Deadline, the YA series created by UFA Fiction speaks about love story in a British private boarding school. The streaming platform shared today that the series “achieved the largest first-week global viewership for an International Original in Prime Video history,” the streaming platform shared today when they announced the second season. Amazon explained that Maxton Hall has been the number-one TV series on the Prime Video Charts, which has happened in more than 120 countries. Furthermore, it’s top three in more than 50 countries, including the U.S. as well.
The series was based on the book named Save You, written by author Mona Kasten (Save Us, Save Me, Lonely Heart), according to Deadline. It stars actor Damian Hardung (Club der roten Bänder, Red Bracelets: The Beginning, Die Könige der Straße) and actress Harriet Herbig-Matten (Baltic Crimes, Teenosaurus Rex). The series focuses on the love story between Ruby, a top student who’s looking to get a recommendation letter for Oxford University, and the arrogant yet millionaire top student named James Beaufort, who is the most popular student in their private school, because his family owns the most important clothing company in Europe. Ruby witnesses a secret that could damage the Beaufort family’s reputation, so Beaufort tries to keep Ruby silent and makes her life impossible, but in little time, they harbor feelings for each other and will risk everything in their lives just to be together.
According to Deadline, the Amazon MGM Studio’s VP of International Originals, named James Farrell, shared that the series “once again proves that local stories have the power to captivate global audiences,” as its success followed the popularity of movies of similar genre including Medellín, from France, and Culpa Mía and Reina Roja, from Spain.
UFA producer, named Ceylan Yildirim, agreed to what Farrell shared, via Deadline: “While we started off as a local production for the German market, Prime Video first built enthusiasm for our project internally and then shared it with the world. We are overwhelmed by the euphoric reactions.”
