Prime Video announced the premiere date of its new medical drama, Quiz From God. The highly anticipated series is a spinoff of the popular Korean drama by CJ ENM. According to Variety, the Japanese remake will premiere globally on Dec. 4, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video.
Shotaro Mamiya (Tokyo Revengers, The Floor Plan) will star in the leading role of Hatsushima Hurato, an ex-neurosurgeon who changed career paths to forensic pathology. Hurato is so good at his work that many believe a divine power gave him his talent.
The series follows Hurato after he mysteriously quits his position as a neurosurgeon and joins the National Forensic Autopsy Center as an investigator.
He solves the most inexplicable cases in Tokyo, including the on-stage death of a controversial idol, a man who dies after taking on small criminal jobs, and someone whose life is suddenly cut short on a first date.
His investigative work not only leads him to uncover rare medical conditions, but also exposes societal issues in the victims’ environments.
Simultaneously, Haruto has battles of his own, including a rare chronic illness that is slowly worsening and a secret that could change the whole trajectory of his world.
The original Korean series starred Ryu Deok-Hwan (Heavenly Ever After, The Peach Tree) as the lead. Audiences received the series very well, and it ran for five seasons. Although the Japanese version differs in tone, setting, and point of view, the show’s creators insist it still has the fan-favorite elements that made the original popular.
The Japanese remake had been in the works for over a decade. Mamiya shared with Variety that “After many twists and turns, the project finally began moving forward last autumn.”
Mamiya also shared his appreciation for the series’ director with Variety, stating, “This was my first time working with the director, but we were able to build a relationship of trust through our meetings, script readings, and filming.
