Prime Video invites viewers into new world of alternative fantasy with the premiere of a new series, My Lady Jane, on Thursday, June 27, 2024. My Lady Jane features a historical retelling of 16th-century English royalty, in a universe where women like Lady Jane are portrayed as adventurous, courageous and defiant.
As per the Prime Video media release, My Lady Jane is based off the best selling-book with the matching title, following history where “King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband Guildford.” With history rewritten, Lady Jane is forced to confront the tribulations of her new destiny.
The media release dives deeper into what viewers should expect for the series, sharing the logline:
“Gird your loins for the tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey, the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded in 1553… F*ck that. We’re retelling history the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself. This is an epic tale of true love and high adventure set in an alt-universe of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and rompy-pompy. Buckle up.”
According to Prime Video, Emily Bader (Fresh Kills, Charmed) will play the role of Lady Gray and Edward Bluemel (Sex Education, Killing Eve) will portray her love interest, Guildford Dudley. Joining the cast as King Edward is Jordan Peters (Everything I Know About Love, Pirates), with Anna Chancellor (Four Weddings and Funeral, Pennyworth) as Jane’s mother, Lady Frances Grey and Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia!, Preacher) as Lord Seymour via the media release.
Prime Video also revealed that Gemma Burgess (upcoming Mavericks, Brooklyn Girls trilogy) and Meredith Glynn (Supernatural, The Boys) are executive producers and showrunners for the series. The media release adds that Sarah Bradshaw (Citadel, The Mummy) and Laurie MacDonald (Flight, Men in Black) will join as executive producers. Jamie Babbit (But I’m A Cheerleader, Only Murders in the Building) is an additional executive producer who will also serve as the producing director. Babbit directed the first five episodes of My Lady Jane.
My Lady Jane will release eight episodes this summer and stream exclusively on Prime Video.
