Prime Video Renews ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ for Season Three

Deadline has reported that Prime Video has officially renewed The Summer I Turned Pretty for a third season. Author of the bestselling novels the series is based on, Jenny Han (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, XO, Kitty), will continue as showrunner with Sarah Kucserka (Ugly Betty, Brothers & Sisters).

“We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays an entertainment phenomenon,” says head of television, Amazon and MGM Studios, Vernon Sanders, (The Enemy Within, Harry’s Law), according to Deadline. “This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story. We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more Summer to look forward to. Thank you to Jenny, Sarah Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt and our friends at wiip for their remarkable work and partnership.”

Season two of The Summer I Turned Pretty premiered on Prime Video on July 14 and is currently dropping new episodes weekly, with the finale scheduled for August 18. Deadline reports that season two is in the 10 most-watched seasons of any series on Prime Video, according to Amazon.

According to Deadline, season three was renewed before the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. The series will not begin production for season three until after the two unions have resolved their labor negotiations.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is executive produced by Han, Kucserka, Paul Lee (Mare of Easttown, Dickinson), Hope Hartman (Where Peachtree Meets Sweet Auburn, Flipped), Mads Hansen (Now You See Me, End of Watch), Gabrielle Stanton (Grey’s Anatomy, Haven), and Karen Rosenfelt (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse). It is produced by wiip and Amazon Studios.

The series stars Lola Tung (Entertainment Tonight, The Summer I Turned Pretty), Gavin Casalegno (The Vampire Diaries, Noah), Christopher Briney (Mean Girls: The Musical, Dalíland), Sean Kaufman (Manifest, The Summer I Turned Pretty), Rachel Blanchard (Clueless, You Me Her), and Jackie Chung (Station 19, Someone Else).
