Prime Video Renews ‘The Boys’ For Season Five

The Emmy-winning drama series The Boys is returning for season five! According to an Amazon MGM Studios press release, the news was revealed during Prime Video’s inaugural Upfronts presentation. As previously reported, the network is set to debut the series’ fourth season on June 13 with three episodes. After its initial release, a new episode will debut weekly until the season concludes on Thursday, July 18.

The Boys’ fourth season will feature eight episodes and is slated to be streamed exclusively on Prime Video. As per the press release, Vernon Sanders (The Enemy Within), the head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, spoke about the series at the presentation and said, “The Boys is an unabashed and bold series that continues captivating our customers all over the world by piercing the cultural fabric season after season. We are proud of this series that has grown into a global franchise, and we are thrilled that Eric Kripke and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell for all the loyal fans.”

The press release also notes the series’ showrunner, Eric Kripke (Supernatural), expressed his appreciation for working on The Boys by stating, “The Boys could be the best job I’ll ever have. What other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family, and exploding genitalia, though not in that order. The cast and crew are deeply grateful to Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to tell this story for another season. My only problem is that since this year promises to be free of any conflict or misinformation, we’re not sure what to write about.”

Katherine Pope (New Girl), the president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, also vocalized her thoughts on the series and said, via the press release, “Since its premiere, devoted fans across the globe have been down with The Boys for this unapologetically wild ride and we couldn’t be more proud of our producers, writers, cast, and crew who bring this genius insanity to life. Now, with a fifth chapter to their story, we can’t wait to see where Eric Kripke and The Boys go next.”

The Boys is adapted from The New York Times best-selling comic book of the same name by Darick Robertson (Gen V) and Garth Ennis (Constantine), who are also executive producers on the series with showrunner Kripke. Additional executive producers include James Weaver (Neighbors), Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express), David Reed (The Magicians), Michaela Starr (Gen V), Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend), Meredith Glynn (Scream: The TV Series), Ken F. Levin (Preacher), Paul Grellong (Revolution), Judalina Neira (The Flash), Pavun Shetty (S.W.A.T.), Evan Goldberg (Superbad), Phil Sgriccia (Gen V) and Jason Netter (StarBeam)

The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television in collaboration with Point Grey Pictures, Kripke Enterprises and Original Film.

As per the press release, the official logline for The Boys’ anticipated season reads, “In Season Four, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”

Season four of The Boys will star Laz Alonso (Avatar), Erin Moriarty (Captain Fantastic), Karl Urban (Star Trek), Tomer Capone (One Week and a Day), Colby Minifie (Fear the Walking Dead), Cameron Crovetti (The Grey Man), Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Jessie T. Usher (Smile), Antony Starr (Outrageous Fortune), Claudia Doumit (Timeless), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games) and Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl). According to the press release, additional cast members are slated to join this season, including Valorie Curry (Detroit: Become Human), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) and Susan Heyward (Orange Is the New Black)
