Deadline reported that a new series based on author Lucy Score’s “Knockemout” trilogy series. The project, titled Things We Never Got Over, had been fast-tracked in development by Prime Video and originates from Ringer creators Nicole Snyder (The Perfection, Midnight, Texas) and Eric Charmelo (Supernatural, Love You To Death).
Charmelo and Snyder will serve as both executive producers and showrunners for the series, and are credited as writers for the series pilot. From Deadline, both said on the streaming platform’s series order for the project:
“Things We Never Got Over has everything we love in great television: an irresistible enemies-to-lovers romance, quirk, comedy, and a community you never want to leave. Lucy Score built a wildly passionate fanbase around these characters, and we’re excited to introduce the world of Knockemout to Prime Video audiences everywhere.”
Author Score, who will also serve as an EP, shared her support of the team backing the development.
“[…] Readers can rest assured that the characters we all love so deeply on the page are in the best possible hands to be brought to life on screen,” said Score, via Deadline.
Things We Never Got Over, which is the first book in the trilogy, follows runaway bride Naomi Witt dealing with the fallout of the actions of her estranged twin, Tina. After Tina steals her wallet and car, Naomi is left stranded in unfamiliar Middle-Of-Nowhere, Virginia, with a newly-revealed niece to take care of – Luckily, life seems to grant her a boon, in the form of one hot yet grumpy local who becomes more important to her than she could have ever realized. Via Deadline, this first book is one of Kindle Unlimited’s most-read titles since its 2022 release, and is a New York Times bestseller.
The project is set to be produced by Amazon MGM Studios, as part of the studio’s growing expansion towards romance and female-leaning stories. With the surge of popularity and hugely successful launch from Prime Video’s adaptation of author Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series (also one of Amazon MGM’s projects), the movement seems to be heralding a positive outlook for future similar literature-to-series adaptations.
In any case, Deadline reports that this news has been a long time coming, as the series was originally commissioned to be turned into a title in 2023 at Amazon from Amy Rardin (Echo, Every Year After). Currently, credited EPs also include series author Score alongside Gina Girolamo (You, The Secret Circle) through her production company, Strega Stories.
As listed by Deadline; Lucy Score is represented by Flavia Viotti at Bookcase Literary Agency, Snyder and Charmelo are represented by Literate, UTA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum, and Girolamo is represented by Joel McKuin.
