According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy winner and Oscar nominee Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, In Time) is set to star in and executive produce Skinny Dip. The series is an adaptation of Carl Hiaasen’s (Hoot, Bad Monkey) novel, in development at Prime Video after being originally set up for HBO Max. Prime Video became home to the series after sources say the Amazon-owned company made a bigger offer. The dramatic comedy comes from Warner Bros. TV, writers Adam Horowitz (Tron: Legacy, Once Upon a Time) and Edward Kitsis (Dead of Summer, Amazing Stories) and executive producer Bill Lawrence (Spin City, Cougar Town).
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the logline for the series reads as follows: “Skinny Dip is the story of Joey Perrone, whose second anniversary didn’t go quite as planned. She expected earrings, but instead, her husband Chaz had, shall we say, alternate plans. After unexpectedly finding herself on the other side of those plans, she vows to get revenge. Teaming up with a disgraced ex-cop, Joey sets out to make Chaz pay. Skinny Dip is an action-romantic-comedy-triangle about murder, vengeance, and the elusiveness of true accountability in this world.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, if it goes to series, Skinny Dip will be the third series based on Hiaasen’s novels to make it to TV screens in recent years. Lawrence created and executive-produced Apple TV’s Bad Monkey, which is another project adapted from Hiaasen’s work. ABC has RJ Decker airing next year based on Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy. Kitsis and Horowitz are executive producing Skinny Dip with Seyfried; Lawrence, Jeff Ingold (Ted Lasso, Rush Hour) and Liza Katzer (Whiskey Cavalier, Head of the Class) of Doozer Productions; and Hiaasen.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Seyfried is currently the only known star on the series. She can also be seen in The Housemaid and The Testament of Ann Lee, both of which hit theaters later in December.
