The new TV adaptation of the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover (Community) and Maya Erskine (pen15) is set to hit Prime Video on February 2. Recently, a new featurette was dropped for fans and viewers alike that has some clues and hints as to what the series will entail. With this, there has also been a special letter sent around upon the release of the new featurette.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith is an adaptation of the hit film of the same title. The original film is about a couple of assassins who are given the assignment to do away with the other. The official description for the television series from Prime Video reads “Two lonely strangers land a job working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch: new identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. & Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier, espionage or marriage?”
In the letter to the fans written by series co-creator Francesca Sloane, she talks about her feelings towards the creation of the show. She goes on about the very beginning of the process when Glover came to her with the idea, how she overcame many internet trolls who questioned the need for the show, and where a ton of the inspiration for the series from old spy movies and tropes came from. She concludes it by hoping that those watching the series will enjoy it and feel something from the show as much as she did.
“On our show, we go on the journey of seeing these two ordinary people become extraordinary. We watch them become stronger spies but more vulnerable humans. We hope that you laugh. We hope that it makes you feel something. We hope that you enjoy the big swing. In such a saturated world of so many options, thank you for taking the time to watch Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
