Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios just announced in a press release the making of a new original series, Kevin. Kevin is an adult animated series about a cat named Kevin as he discovers his place in the world. The show takes place in Queens, New York, where Kevin finds himself at a local pet rescue after his unexpected breakup with his human owners. The show’s creators are Joe Wentert (Big Mouth, Past My Bedtime) and Aubrey Plaza (Honey Don’t, Megalopolis), who will also star in Kevin along with Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act 3, Harlem) and John Waters (Digman!, StanLand), Aparna Nancherla (Public Park, Kiff), Gil Ozeri (Big Mouth, Monster), Amy Sedaris (Elf, Smurfs) and Jason Schwartzman (Teenage, Cracking Up).

Schwartzman will portray the character Kevin, a lovable, yet neurotic black and white house cat who trades his shelter life with his human owners for the excitement of the big city at a pet rescue, Furrier Friends, run by the character Seth, played by Gil Ozeri.

Plaza is the confident, career-minded young woman, Dana, who has just decided to break up with her boyfriend, as Kevin decides to venture out into the world on his own.

The animated series will feature other characters/animals for Kevin to interact with, and help move the story along. Nancherla plays Judy, a sweet and lovable kitten who welcomes Kevin to the pet store, who believes wholeheartedly that there is a perfect human for all pets. Waters plays the sarcastic, no-nonsense Persian cat, Armando, who chooses freedom and an independent lifestyle instead of a human life. Goldberg will play Cupcake, a feral and hairless cat who tries to con humans and the other animals. Finally, Sedaris is Brandi. Even though Brandi is a dog, it is clear that Brandi is the animal that is really in charge of the pet rescue.
