Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists has been canceled after only one season on Freeform. The 10-episode season premiered in March of this year. It was a spinoff series of Pretty Little Liars and featured stars from the original including Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish. Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists also starred actors Sydney Park, Sofia Carson, Eli Brown, Graeme Thomas King, and Kelly Rutherford.
The series was based on the novel The Perfectionists. Author Sara Shepard wrote The Perfectionists along with the book series from which Pretty Little Liars was adapted. The first book of the series was published in 2006, and Shepard would eventually pen 18 novels and 3 short stories for the franchise. Multiple of these books have appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list.
I. Marlene King, creator and showrunner of Pretty Little Liars, wrote the pilot for this series. King also served as the executive producer alongside Lisa Cochran-Neilan, Leslie Morgenstein, Charlie Craig, and Gina Girolamo. Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists was produced by Alloy Entertainment and Long Lake Media in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television. The pilot episode was directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum.
Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists started to be developed in 2014. At the time, Pretty Little Liars was still on the air. The mothership series only ended in 2017 after an impressive seven-season run on Freeform. It totaled 160 episodes.
The spinoff follows the group of friends, now college students, as they navigate their personal lives, studies, and careers in the picturesque town of Beacon Heights. Despite its cancellation, the show fared well with critics and fans. It has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.2/10 on IMDb.
Freeform has several scripted originals that are still on the air. This includes The Bold Type, Grown-ish, Good Trouble, Siren, and Cloak & Dagger.
