According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peacock has canceled the mystery series Poker Face after two seasons. The series creator, Rian Johnson (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery), has already stated that he is looking for a new home for the show, along with a new lead actor.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the series cancellation comes four months after the conclusion of the second season. The second installment was not met with the same results as the first season, though it was among Peacock’s most-watched original shows and reviews remained heavily positive. Johnson and MRC will shop Poker Face to other outlets but with a twist compared to what has aired on Peacock. Natasha Lyonne (Ornage Is the New Black, American Pie), who plays the lead role of Charlie Cale will no longer be playing the lead role moving forward. Lyonne will continue as an executive producer on the series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the basis for the series will have a new lead actor playing the role of Charlie every two seasons. This is all based on whether another outlet picks up the series in the future.
“We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale,” Johnson and Lyonne said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. “We love our Poker Face and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling. Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Poker Face follows a casino worker, Charlie, who has the extraordinary ability to detect when an individual is lying. She finds herself running across the United States from her casino boss, following the death of her friend and co-worker, using her human lying detection skills to solve crimes along the way. Along side Lyonne cast of the series included Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjacket, Ever After), Jason Ritter (Matlock, Gravity Falls), Jason Theroux (The Leftovers, Your Highness), John Cho (Star Trek, Searching), Simon Rex (Red Rocket, Blink Twice), Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development, Search Party), Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, The Farewell), Gaby Hoffman (Now and Then, Volcano), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals, Stuber) and many others.
