Apple TV’s science fiction series Pluribus, starring Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul, Whitney, Franklin & Bash), has officially begun filming its second season. According to ScreenRant, production started in New Mexico on November 1, with the show’s return potentially not arriving until 2028.
The filming schedule reportedly spans 225 days and production is expected to conclude around June 14, 2027. The first season required approximately 14 months of post-production, suggesting that season two could arrive as late as August 2028 if it follows a similar timeline. However, Apple TV has not officially announced a premiere date.
Created by Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The X-Files), Pluribus follows Carol, a disillusioned romance and fantasy author who finds herself living in a world transformed by an extraterrestrial virus. The virus connects most of humanity into a peaceful hive mind, leaving Carol among the few people unaffected and determined to reverse its effects.
Apple TV originally ordered two seasons of the series before its premiere, although development on the second season has taken longer than expected.
Gilligan had already addressed the delay in August, explaining that the complexity of the show’s storyline created challenges during the writing process. He also discussed the extensive and long filming and post-production process required to create the series.
The first season concluded with several major developments surrounding Carol and the remaining individuals immune to the virus. After initially distancing herself from Manousos, played by Carlos-Manuel Vesga (News of a Kidnapping, The Scent of Passion, Ruido), Carol traveled with Zosia, played by Karolina Wydra (House, True Blood, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
However, after discovering that the Others had successfully developed a version of the virus capable of transforming someone previously immune, Carol reunited with Manousos and brought an atomic bomb in an attempt to stop them.
The series also features Miriam Shor (Younger, American Fiction, Hedwig and the Angry Inch) as Helen, Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death, Sunnyside, The Tiger Hunter) as Koumba Diabaté and Peter Bergman (The Young and the Restless, All My Children) as Davis Taffler.
Although the reported production schedule suggests a 2028 release, a late 2027 premiere remains possible if post-production begins while filming is still underway.
Pluribus season one is available to stream on Apple TV. An official premiere date for season two has not yet been announced.
