Photos surfacing online have revealed a major character in the upcoming Marvel series Ironheart. According to Comicbook, photos obtained by Just Jared captured both stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Thorne filming the Disney+ series set to launch next year. The images confirm rumors of Ramos’ character and reveal Thorne in an early Ironheart suit.
Ramos, known for his breakout role in the film adaptation of In the Heights and HBO’s In Treatment, had been added to the cast earlier this year, but his role had been kept under wraps. Comicbook reports the actor was shown donning a long crimson-colored hooded cape and holding a pistol. Comic experts have hypothesized Ramos’ character is none other than Park Robbins aka The Hood.
Created by Brian K. Vaughn (Saga), Eric Powell (Big Man Plans), and Kyle Hotz (Venom: Planet of the Symbiotes), Robbins first appeared in a solo limited series in 2002 as a petty criminal who confiscates a demon’s cape and boots to possess magic of the mystic arts, via Comicbook. He would later become an anti-hero until 2007 when he was written as a Godfather-like nemesis to the New Avengers. This history makes him an ideal villain for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Ironheart.
In addition to Ramos appearing in character, Comicbook reports that Thorne was seen in her hero suit. A different look from her well-known magenta-colored take on Iron Man’s classic armor, this prototype looked more industrious similar to Tony Stark’s earliest versions. Its bulk and color – a darkened metallic silver with crimson highlights – seem to be modeled after War Machine’s arsenal-heavy suits.
Appearing in Judas and the Black Messiah and If Beale Street Could Talk, Thorne was announced as the MCU’s Ironheart aka Riri Williams back in 2020. Based on the comics by Brian Michael Bendis (Spider-Men), Eve Ewing (Maya and the Robot), Mike Deodato (Dark Avengers), and Kevin Libranda (Ironherat Omnibus), Williams is a 15-year-old Chicagoan tech genius who builds her own Iron Man suit. When tragedy strikes her family, she assumes the role of Ironheart, a young successor to Stark’s armored hero.
In addition to Thorne and Ramos, the series’ cast includes Lyric Ross (This Is Us), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Shea Couleé (Nubia Amplified). Produced by Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler, the show boasts Sam Bailey (Dear White People) and Angela Barnes (Loot) as directors.
Before the series premiere next year, fans can see Thorne’s MCU debut as Williams in November’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
