‘Phineas and Ferb’ Creator Dan Povenmire Gets Emotional Watching Show’s First Revival Episode

Disney Channel’s hit animated show Phineas and Ferb is making its way back on screen after first premiering in 2007 and debuting its finale season in 2015, according to mxdwn. While the series revival was announced in 2023, creator Dan Povenmire (Milo Murphy’s Law, Hamster & Gretel) was seen in newly released video on X to be emotionally giggling, blaming his tears on how good the first episode looks for Phineas and Ferb season five, per Comicbook.com.

Joining Povenmire for the show’s revival is its other original creator, Jeff ‘Swampy’ Marsh (Rocko’s Modern Life, Pete the Cat), who produced over 125 episodes for the series’ original run via Comicbook.com. Mxdwn reported that most of the original cast will also be returning, as Povenmire commented at New York Comic Con 2023 additional details for the show’s return, saying, “It’ll [season five] probably be the following summer. It’s basically the same show as before, we’ve got a lot of the same staff. We realized we hadn’t run out of ideas yet… I think with the pandemic, a lot of people went back to that for a comfort show and I think that really pushed the numbers up…” Phineas and Ferb ran from 2007 to 2015, and the positive ratings prove that the simplicity of the show needs no change.” Specific returning voice actors have yet to be confirmed.

While production on Phineas and Ferb’s return has been rolling steadily, an official release date for season five’s premiere is still unknown. According to mxdwn, the 2023 Writer’s Guild of America strike did not create setbacks for the animated program, giving fans hope that the newest season will be released in the near future.

Season five is not the only confirmed new season for the show. Disney has already ordered 40 episodes for the series revival, leading to two new seasons of Phineas and Ferb set to debut via mxdwn. President of Disney Branded Television, Ayo Davis (Ghosts of Mars, Cabin Fever), assured her confidence in the decision to order 40 upcoming episodes, saying, “[Povenmire has an] ability to create universally beloved stories and characters with both heart and humor.”

Fans will have to wait for Phineas and Ferb’s return, but they will soon be transported back into an endless, adventure-filled summer when the revival of Phineas and Ferb hits Disney’s programming services.
