Peacock’s ‘The Amber Ruffin Show’ Announces Premiere Date

Comedian, writer and actor Amber Ruffin’s (Late Night with Seth Meyers) new Peacock series has an official premiere date. According to Comicbook.comThe Amber Ruffin Show will debut September 25th as part of the NBCUniversal streaming service’s original programming.

Ruffin revealed the news in a tweet seen below.

Ruffin began writing for Seth Meyers’ show in 2014. At the time, Ruffin was the first Black woman to write for a network late-night series. According to Comicbook.com, her show will feature sketches and commentary similar to the work she has risen to prominence for on Meyers’ show. A lot of her work is topical, speaking to issues in the news, race, and politics.

“We are going to talk about the news, and we are going to be doofuses, so hopefully it’ll be a nice mix of the two,” Ruffin said in a Vulture interview, via Comicbook.com. “We will be like, ‘Well now this crazy thing is the law. Let’s examine what that might look like in puppet show.’ God, it won’t be a puppet show. Sorry, I said puppet show,” Ruffin humored via Comicbook.com.

Ruffin is aware the show will premiere in the middle of an election year. According to Comicbook.com, she seems prepared.

“I love it, but also it doesn’t feel contentious to me,” Ruffin said, via Comicbook.com “It doesn’t feel like there are these two crazy sides against each other, because I’m Black person and I don’t know a lot of Trump people.” It feels more like us normal folks and then stories you hear from people who know people who are crazy — it’s those two groups. So I can’t imagine someone fixing their face to say to me, ‘Oh my God, I love Trump so much and I want to talk about that with you.’ I would die. Sorry. Actually, I would be perfectly fine because my legs work and I would walk away,” Ruffin said via Comicbook.com.
