Upon its arrival on the streaming platform, the NBC hit comedy series The Office will contain extended versions of some of its episodes on Peacock in 2021, according to Screen Rant. Created by Greg Daniels (Space Force, Parks and Recreation), the series debuted on NBC in 2005 and ran for a total of nine seasons, amassing a total of 201 episodes during this duration. The show witnessed great critical acclaim and commercial success with one Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2006 and is one of the most-watched television programs of all time. Executive produced by Paul Liberstein (The Newsroom), B.J. Novak (Inglourious Basterds), Mindy Kaling (Mindy Project), Ricky Gervais (Extras), Daniels himself, and many more, the show is making a change in its streaming home as it will move over to NBC’s newly launched streaming service Peacock in 2021.
The Office is based upon a British series under the same name and created by Gervais. The United States’ version followed a dysfunctional paper company, Dunder Mifflin, in Scranton, Pennsylvania as the workers were constantly followed around by a documentary crew. The show’s cast includes the likes of Steve Carell (The Big Short) as the politically incorrect manager Michael Scott, John Krasinski (A Quiet Place) as Jim, Jenna Fischer (Blades of Glory) as Pam, Rainn Wilson (Juno) as Dwight, Brian Baumgartner (Hot in Cleveland) as Kevin, Angela Kinsey (Your Family or Mine) as Angela, and Ed Helms (Hangover) as Andy. The series’ additional cast includes the likes of Leslie David Baker (Scrubs), Kate Flannery (Home), Oscar Nunez (Benched), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Kaling, Novak, Amy Ryan (The Wire), Creed Bratton (Saving Lincoln), Phyllis Smith (The OA), and Craig Robinson (This is the End) on top of many more.
The chairman of Peacock and NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises Matt Strauss stated to Bloomberg, via Screen Rant, that “We will be reintroducing The Office in a more complete way, incorporating elements that were not part of the original broadcast.” Currently, there is not an announcement on what specific portions of the series will be extended nor past deleted scenes that may be included in the updated streaming version. Regardless, the addition of The Office to Peacock will add a big boost to the original catalog of content. Peacock subscriptions start at $4.99 per month with ads and also offers an ad-free service at $9.99 per month.
