According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peacock has followed up the original teaser trailer for the new series Twisted Metal with a new official trailer. Well, really, Peacock released two trailers. One of the trailers is uncensored while the other one feels as though it is simply a slew of bleeps to cover up profanity. If viewers played or had any interest in the video game that the series is based upon, profanities should not be an issue with the intended audience!
The show was written and created by Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai, Diary of a Future President) and is produced by Sony Pictures Television, Playstation Productions and Universal Television. The executive producers of the upcoming series are Smith, Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland) and Rhett Reese (Ghosted, Spiderhead).
The cast for Twisted Metal is absolutely star-studded. Anthony Mackie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Hurt Locker) will be portraying the main character and delivery driver, John Doe, Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Encanto) plays a seemingly crazed hitchhiker, and Thomas Haden Church (The Peanut Butter Falcon, Heaven is for Real) is also to star in the series. While the core cast is already an incredible group, the guest stars on Twisted Metal are sure to impress audiences. A murderous clown called Sweet Tooth will be played by wrester Samoa Joe (IMPACT!, WWE Monday Night Raw) but will be voiced by Will Arnett (Bojack Horseman, Arrested Development), which is sure to be interesting. The rest of the known guest stars are Lou Betty Jr. (NCIS, Comet), Mike Mitchell (Sonic the Hedgehog 2, The Tomorrow War), Richard Cabral (Mayans M.C., Breaking In), Neve Campbell (Medium, The Simpsons) and Tahj Vaughans (Get Out, Black Water).
To not stir controversy, The Hollywood Reporter notes that Peacock made it very clear that all work on Twisted Metal was completed in March of 2023, before the writers went on strike against streamers and studios.
The trailer expands on what is to go down throughout the series and it begins with Mackie’s character narrating. Delivery driver John Doe says “Twenty years ago, the world fell to shit. Cities put up walls to protect themselves and threw the criminals out to fight over what was left.” We then seen that Campbell’s character gives Doe the task of picking up a package and delivering to New San Francisco. Along the ride, Doe is held at gunpoint by Beatriz’s character until he allows her to hitchhike and along the way, Doe runs into many psychopaths and murderers, one being the clown mentioned previously called Sweet Tooth.
