The upcoming comedy streaming series from Meredith Scardino (The Colbert Report), Girls5Eva, has just released the first-look trailer and premiere date on Peacock TV, according to Deadline. In addition to being executive produced by Scardino, the series’ EPs include Tina Fey (Mean Girls, Saturday Night Live), Eric Gurian (Sisters, 30 Rock), Jeff Richmond (30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), David Minor (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Robert Carlock (30 Rock). The Peacock original comedy is preparing for a Thursday, May 6 premiere with all eight episodes of its first season landing on the streamer on its first night.
Girls5Eva centers around a girl musical group from the 90s that saw success through a one-hit-wonder track. The series follows the band members’ attempt to reunite and reinvigorate their past success later in their lives after an up and coming rapper samples their hit single. However, with their return, newfound stresses such as family, occupations, and personal injury begin to take their toll on their comeback. The series cast features singer Sara Bareilles (Central Park) as Dawn, Paula Pell (A.P. Bio, Mapleworth Murders) as Gloria, Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton, The Good Wife) as Wickie, and Busy Philipps (Freaks and Geeks) as Summer as the past members of the girl group. Additional members of the cast include the likes of Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon, Girls) and Ashley Park (Emily in Paris).
