According to Comicbook, season two of Peacemaker on HBO Max is not currently in production because James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Brightburn) does not have time. James Gunn was hired to lead the DC universe, alongside Peter Safran (Aquaman, The Suicide Squad), in October of 2022 and has a number of productions on his current slate.Gunn revealed he was not creating season two of Peacemaker currently at a press event for DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Safran stated that Waller, an upcoming series starring Viola Davis (Fences, The Help), takes places in between seasons one and two of Peacemaker. According to Gunn, some of Team Peacemaker will be regulars in Waller. Christal Henry (Watchmen, The First) is executive producing and she and Jeremy Carver (Doom Patrol, Frequency) are writing. There is currently no set release date for Waller.
Gunn is currently writing the screenplay for Superman: Legacy, which will be the first movie in the DCU, and he is in production of a Creature Commandos animated series on HBO Max. A Booster Gold series for HBO Max was also just recently announced by Gunn.
Creature Commandos is intended to be the first series in the ten-year plan for the DCU. The titular team is made up of Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, Rick Flag Sr., Doctor Phosphorus, Nina Mazursky, and The Suicide Squad‘s Weasel. The series will most likely release in 2025.
Safran explained at the press event that they are open to the addition to any DC character into the DCU, should a filmmaker have a worthy story to tell. He states that though the DCU is a multiverse, this iteration is focusing on one universe.
Peacemaker season one was released on HBO Max on January 13th of 2022 and was quickly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. The series is a spinoff of The Suicide Squad, following the film’s villain, Peacemaker, played by John Cena (F9, Fast X). Season one is available to stream on HBO Max.
