In the teaser on Comicbook, the trailer shows Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo (Point Blank, Stowaway), who is planning an operation which will bring in Peacemaker for killing his son in the 2021 Suicide Squad movie. While the world still doubts the anti-hero and his team, the teaser shows their push for acceptance as they continue to fight to save the world. James Gunn, the creator of Peacemaker, has further stated that Peacemaker and his father have unfinished business, and Flag Sr. will be the main antagonist, via Comicbook.
In facing Rick Flag Sr.’s threats, Peacemaker will return with the entire gang of the ’11th street kids’ which will include the beloved cast from before such as Adebayo, Vigilante, Jennifer Holland (American Pie Presents: The Book of Love, Brightburn) as the ever so serious Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee (Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History, Close Enough) as John Economos. The teaser also suggests that season two may see a new hero join the team, Nhut Le’s judomaster from season one.
According to Comicbook, DC studios’ James Gunn revealed at a press conference that he’s reached the editing stage, as he is also working on his upcoming film, Superman. With significant progress made on the season two premiere of Peacemaker, Gunn indicated that the creative vision of the first season is what drew the series overall success, and will make an even bigger debut in the upcoming second season in August.
“Peacemaker is all done. I am deep in editing with that at the same time I’m doing Superman,” Gunn announced via Comicbook, also further noting how Cena has built acclaimed work as an actor since being cast. “I think he surprised people a lot in the first season with what he was able to do performance wise. And the guy grew exponentially in season two. He’s really incredible, as is the whole cast.”
While the series promises R-rated violence, the teaser highlights a more intuitive core to Peacemaker, proving that his battle is far from won. Being seen as society’s castaway has a profound effect on the 11th Street Kids and Peacemaker, as they continue to fight illustrious personal battles alongside those to also protect the universe.
Peacemaker season 2 will premiere August 21st on Max, not soon after Gunn’s upcoming film Superman will hit theaters on July 11.
