With casting for HBO’s Harry Potter series underway, one question remains: who will play the antagonist, Voldemort? We may not have an answer, but Deadline reports that the films have a fan in Marvel actor Paul Bettany (Amadeus, Here), who may be tied to the series.
For those who don’t know, HBO has been making a TV adaptation of the movie franchise, Harry Potter. The series tells a gripping story involving Harry Potter, “The Boy who Lived,” who goes to Hogwarts, the school for wizardry and witchcraft. It is there he meets friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. The trio goes on many adventures and end up coming face-to-face with Voldemort, the enemy of Harry Potter and all of the magic world.
Bettany confirmed being a fan of the IP after being linked to the role of the nefarious wizard. According to Deadline, Bettany had this to say, “I haven’t heard anything about that… I’m a big fan of the IP, and I’m a big fan of HBO, but nobody has called me up about that.”
mxdwn previously reported rumors that Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Steve) was also in consideration for the role, but it was later confirmed that he wasn’t.
The cast consists of Bertie Carvel (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Pride & Prejudice), Bel Powley (Savage House, The Morning Show), John Lithgow (Dexter: Resurrection, Buzz), Johnny Flynn (A Prayer for the Dying, Goodbye June), Nick Frost (Whistle, Grow), Warwick Davis (Moominvalley, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire), Katherine Parkinson (Rivals, Here We Go), Janet McTeer (The Artist, MobLand), Paapa Essiedu (The Capture, More Life), Anton Lesser (The Yellow Tie, Andor), Louise Brealey (Shetland, The Archers), Dominic McLaughlin (Gifted, The Red Admiral), Lambert Wilson (Chopin, Chopin!, La Maison), and Paul Whitehouse (The Change, When Alan Met Ray).
It is undetermined when the series will premiere, so we will have to wait for the trailer to give us more insight. In the meantime, you can watch the Harry Potter film franchise on HBO Max.
