Passing The Wand: Original ‘Harry Potter’ Actor Issues His HBO Counterpart An Hilarious 1.5-Second Challenge

It would seems that the upcoming Harry Potter series has added new addition to its growing cast, in the original actor has taken to social media passing the torch and offering a cheeky warning about screen time. According to Screenrant, the actor in question is Alex Crockford (Shanghai Sherlock, The Night Before Tomorrow), who has portrayed Charlie Weasley in a brief cameo photographer back in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but sadly has never reappeared in any others.

Reported by Screenrant, the role will now be played by Harry Gilby (The Last Kingdom, Tolkien). Crockford stated on X regarding his successor, “Aaaah. The moment has come to pass on the dragon-wrangling kit to the new guy! Congratulations sir, and I hope you get more screen time than I did (the record to beat is 1.5 seconds!) #jenesuispascharlieanymore”.

Charlie plays a much more prominent role in the books than in the movies. According to Screenrant, that novels establish that he lives in Romania and works as a dragonologist, during which time he gathered dragons for the Triwizard Tournament’s First Task in Goblet of Fire. He is later mentioned in Order of the Phoenix as recruiting foreign wizards to join the fight, before ultimately arriving with reinforcements during the Battle of Hogwarts in Deathly Hallow.

According to Screenrant, the upcoming series will offer a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s iconic books. It will follow the magical journey of Harry Potter, played by Dominic McLaughlin (Gifted, Grow), Hermione Granger, played by Arabella Stanton (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), and Ron Weasley, played by Alastair Stout (Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic, ABC News Breakfast), as they face dark forces and dangerous obstacles throughout their years at Hogwarts. While Charlie Weasley is set to play a larger role in the upcoming reboot, marking his long-awaited live-action debut, specific details regarding the scope of his story remain closely guarded.

The Harry Potter TV series is scheduled to make it’s magical debut on HBO on December 25.
