Paramount+’s ‘School Spirits’ Renewed for Season Two

Deadline has reported that Paramount+’s supernatural teen drama School Spirits has been renewed for a second season. The series is based on the upcoming graphic novel of the same name by Megan Trinrud (Weird Little Things, Made in Hollywood), Nate Trinrud (Goodbye, Charlie, Pop Rox), and Maria Nguyen (Niko and the Sword of Light, The Rocketeer).

Paramount+ claims that the series was ranked as the top YA series on the streaming service during its first season, according to Deadline.

Season one of School Spirits premiered on Paramount+ on March 9, 2023 and the eight episode run lasted until April 13, 2023.

The series stars Peyton List (Cobra Kai, Jessie), who also serves as a producer.

List portrays Maddie Nears, a teenager trapped in the afterlife who is investigating her own mysterious disappearance. She adjusts to high school in purgatory as she goes on a crime-solving journey. As she gets closer to the truth she uncovers even more secrets and lies.

School Spirits also stars Rainbow Wedell (The Wilds, The Bureau of Magical Things) as Claire Zolinski, Kristian Ventura (Reboot, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) as Simon Elroy, Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as Rhonda, Josh Zuckerman (90210, It’s Pony) as Mr. Martin, Milo Manheim (American Housewife, Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.) as Wally Clark, Spencer MacPherson (Degrassi: Next Class, Reign) as Xavier Baxter, Maria Dizzia (The Happy Sad, While We’re Young) as Sandra Nears, Nick Pugliese (Dramarama, 13 Reasons Why) as Charley, and Kiara Pichardo (The Society, SMILF) as Nicole Herrera.

The series is produced by Awesomeness Studios and is executive produced by Nate Trinrud, Megan Trinrud, Oliver Goldstick (Ravenswood, The Collection), and Max Winkler (It’s Not You It’s Me, Magic Camp). Nate and Megan Trinrud wrote the pilot, Winkler directed the first two episodes, and Goldstick serves as showrunner.

Season two will reportedly begin production in 2024. Season one is currently available to stream on Paramount+ and Prime Video.
