According to Variety, Paramount Global is increasing the price of its Paramount+ streaming service. The ad-free Paramount+ with Showtime will be $12.99 monthly, a $1 increase. Paramount+’s ad-supported essential plan is increasing by $2 to $7.99 monthly. The new plan will roll out starting August 20.
For existing members of Paramount+, the change will go into place on September 20, while subscribers with the Paramount+ Essential plan existing members will not see a price change. Members with the Paramount+ Limited Commercial plan will see a $1 price increase to $7.99.
The new price of Paramount+ is still lower than Netflix’s, Disney+’s and Max’s ad-free plans. Warner Bros. Discovery and Peacock announced that they would be increasing the price of their ad-free plans.
Paramount+ gained 3.7 million subscribers in 2024’s first quarter, likely due in part to CBS’s streaming of the Super Bowl on the platform. This increase means that, in total, the series hosts 71 million total subscribers.
Earlier this month, Shari Redstone, Paramount’s controlling shareholder, called off talks of merging with Skydance Media.
The head of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, Chris McCarthy (Out Of Iraq, The T Word), said that Paramount was “working on exploring options with both SVOD players and the leading technology platforms with the goal of forming a joint venture or a long-term strategic partnership to maximize our momentum and take advantage of our combined strengths.”
According to Variety, the streamer’s official announcement boasts the platform’s “expansive slate of live sports, breaking news and premium originals.”
Original series and films on Showtime include Yellowstone, Mayor Of Kingstown, Knuckles, The Chi, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Fellow Travelers, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek, Short Treks, Special Ops: Lioness, 1883, 1923, Yellowjackets, Landman, Tulsa King, Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin, Mean Girls, Top Gun: Maverick and Bob Marley: One Love.
