Paramount Renews ‘Yellowstone’ for Fourth Season as ViacomCBS Strikes Deal with Taylor Sheridan

The Kevin Costner-led Western television series, Yellowstone, has been renewed for a fourth season prior to its season three summer premiere, according to Deadline. During the show’s second season in the summer of 2019, it was the most-watched summer series for any cable network and is also Paramount Network’s number one show year-round. The series was co-created by the Academy-Award nominated screenwriter Taylor Sheridan and its success has lead to a deal with the recently founded Viacom CBS’s Entertainment & Youth Brands. The early renewal and creative deal suggest signs of future cooperation on projects between the ViacomCBS networks and Sheridan.

Sheridan has been a familiar face for television fans for quite some time, dating back to his role as Deputy Chief David Hale in the early seasons of FX’s Sons of Anarchy. Since his departure from the drama, the actor-screenwriter has received critical acclaim for his original screenplays such as 2015’s Sicario and 2016’s Hell or High Water, the latter which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Sheridan wrote and made his directorial debut in the 2017 thriller, Wind River, which he received further critical acclaim. He then returned to his television roots with the co-creation of Yellowstone where he continues to write, direct, and produce for the series.

Sheridan’s deal marks the first for ViacomCBS’s Entertainment & Youth Brands which oversees networks such as Comedy Central, MTV, Smithsonian Channel, Pop, CMT, VH1, TV Land, Paramount Network, and the studios that work with them. This announcement covers the future of Yellowstone, as well as another Sheridan creation, Mayor of Kingstown, which was ordered to series by Paramount Network in mid-January. Additionally, Sheridan’s other ongoing Paramount series, The Last Cowboy, has also received a renewal for its second season. The inclusion of an accomplished screenwriter and director suggests a bright future for a new brand that provides oversight on various cable networks under the ViacomCBS banner.
