Paramount+ Releases Teaser Trailer for New Series ‘Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies’

Paramount+ is taking a trip back to the 50s in the first teaser trailer for its new series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. The prequel show is set to premiere on April 6. Watch the teaser trailer below.

According to Deadline, the show will take place in 1954, four years before the original Grease. It takes place in a time before rock ‘n’ roll ruled and before the T-Birds were the coolest in high school. The series will focus on four fed-up outcasts that dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.

The show stars Marisa Davila (Love and Baseball, My Big Fat Blonde Musical) as Jane, newcomer Cheyenne Isabel Wells starring as Olivia, Ari Notartomaso (Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin) plays Cynthia, Tricia Fukuhara (The Super Pops, Tango of Imaginary Friends) playing Nancy, Shanel Bailey (The Equalizer, The Good Fight) as Hazel, Madison Thompson (Ozark, The Young and the Restless) stars as Susan, Johnathan Nieves (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, See You Yesterday) playing Richie, Jason Schmidt (FBI: Most Wanted) starring as Buddy, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper (Stay Awake, The Photograph) as Wally and Jackie Hoffman (Only Murders in the Building, The Politician) plays Asst. Principal McGee.

The character of Jane is described by Davila as a bit of a nerd and says that she is probably more similar to Jan from the 1978 film. Jane just wants to be everyone’s friend and is passionate about fairness. She wants to do what is right, leads with her heart, and likes to learn something new about her friends every day.

Davila also spoke via Entertainment Weekly about how the story of Grease can fit into any era. She says “It’s about teenagers navigating social issues, relationships, and the difficult transition into adulthood. The characters run into a lot of the same situations that people in the present day might be dealing with.”

The prequel series will have new original music, written and executive produced by Justin Tranter (The Bravest Knight, Lady Gaga: 911), a Grammy-nominated songwriter. Jamal Sims (Encanto, Descendants 3), whose work has appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race, will be in charge of the choreography for the musical numbers. Alethea Jones (Queen America, Dollface) will be directing the first episode and two more episodes.

According to Deadline, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is written and executive produced by Annabel Oakes (Minx, Atypical), the creator and showrunner of the series. Marty Bowen (Love Victor, Dave) will executive produce for Temple Hill. Other executive producers are Adam Fishbach (Narcos: Mexico, Narcos), and Jones. Erik Feig (Chaos Walking, I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Saime Kim Falvey (The Lost Symbol, Willow) will be producing via Picturestart. Grace Gilroy (Falling Skies, Bride of Chucky) will be in charge of production for the show.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies will premiere on Paramount+ on April 6. Watch the original Grease movie starring the late Olivia Newton-John (Two of a Kind, Face/Off) and John Travolta (Hairspray, Pulp Fiction) on Apple TV.
