According to Deadline, Tulsa King, the popular Paramount+ drama series starring Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Creed), is scheduled to have a broadcast debut on CBS this summer. After the success of Yellowstone, another Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water, Special Ops: Lioness) will be getting a linear window on a network.
According to Deadline, the first season of the series will air on CBS ahead of season two, which is scheduled to premiere this fall. This is an ongoing plan from Paramount Global, which wishes to expose more of its streaming content to new audiences on different platforms. This is a more cost-effective move on Paramount’s part as it is cheaper than creating a new scripted series.
Tulsa King is a dramatic series that follows the story of Dwight Mandfredi, a Mafia capo who was recently released from prison. After serving his time for 25 years for murder for the New York Invernizzi crime family, he is told to move to Tulsa, because his family had no prospects for him. When he reaches Tulsa Oklahoma, he begins to set up his criminal organization.
The cast for the series includes Stallone as Dwight Mandfredi, Andrea Savage (A Million Little Things) as Stacy Beale, Martin Starr (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Bodhi, Jay Will (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Tyson, Max Casella (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) as Armand Trusi, Domenick Lombardozzi (We Own This City) as Charles Invernizzi, Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire) as Vince Antonacci, A.C Peterson (Superman & Lois) as Pete Invernizzi, and many others.
According to Deadline, Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish recently addressed the new move on the company’s earnings call. Bakish said, “We’re going to run the first season of Tulsa on CBS before the second season of Tulsa dropping on Paramount+, really using it as a broad marketing engine. As you know, we did a variant of that idea on Yellowstone and we really saw a continued broadening of the audience, so we think that’s a real opportunity for Tulsa as well, given Stallone, etc. So we also think it’s attractive from an economic perspective.”
Tulsa King is available to stream on Paramount+. Season two is scheduled to premiere in either late 2024 or early 2025.
