OWN’s ‘David Makes Man’ Casts Ten In Recurring Roles For Upcoming Second Season

OWN’s Peabody-award winning drama series, David Makes Man, announced the addition of ten actors to its cast for its second season, according to Deadline. These additions will appear in recurring roles along with Kwame Patterson (The Wire, Snowfall), Arlen Escarpeta (The Magicians, The Oath), and returning stars Akili McDowell (Billions, The Astronauts Wives Club), Alana Arenas (Mercury in Retrograde, BrainDead) Travis Coles (Lizza On Demand, Ass Level) and Cayden K. Williams (Girls Trip, Beautifully Broken).

Deadline reports Tony Plana (Ugly Betty, Lethal Weapon), Janmarco Santiago (The Fate of the Furious, Tycoon), Rodney Gardiner (The Warriors, A Spy Named James), Brandi Huzzie (The Demon in the Dark, 5 Minutes), Brittany S. Hall (Ballers, Nappily Ever After), Bobbi Baker (Tell Me Your Secrets, House of Payne), Zsane Jhe (Black Lightning, The Hate U Give), Erica Luttrell (Westworld, Salvation), Patrice Arenas (Celestial), and Trinity Cidel will play brand new characters as well as adult versions of returning characters.

The second season will be set in the future exploring our main character’s life as an adult, according to Deadline. Season one centered on McDowell’s David, a teenager attempting to rise above the hardships of his tough Florida housing projects. Arenas plays his recovering addict mother, Gloria, who with the help of Coles’ Mx. Elijah, labored for a better life for David and his younger brother, JG, played by Williams. Patterson has been cast as elder David while Escarpeta will play adult JG.

According to Deadline, series creator Tarrell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight, High Flying Bird) executive produces with Warner Bros. Television, Mike Kelley (Jericho, Solstice) and Melissa Loy (What/If, Revenge) of Page Fright, Michael B. Jordan’s (Creed 2, Just Mercy) Outlier Society, and Oprah Winfrey’s (Greenleaf, The Color Purple) Harpo Films. Showrunner Dee Harris-Lawrence (Zoo, Detroit 1-8-7), who recently struck an overall deal with Warner Bros. TV, will also executive produce. The 10-episode season will be directed by Kiel Adrian Scott (The Roe Effect, Samira) and Erica Watson (Star, Krypton). Fans can expect the second season to premiere in the summer of 2021.
