When Oprah Winfrey announced the end of her 25-year running talk show, everyone wondered: What’s next? The answer is the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), a TV network founded by Oprah herself that is filled with shows that she has hand-picked.
OWN has announced the premiere of a new show. Director/producer Tyler Perry, known for his movie series featuring the character Madea, has created the drama, the Haves and the Have Nots.
The Haves and the Have Nots is a hard-hitting drama that, as oprah.com reveals, showcases the vast difference between social classes. The show follows the Cryer family, a rich family who lives in a mansion in Savannah, Georgia. The Cryers are very much focused on their image and reputation. However, this family has quite a few skeletons in the closet and the relationships can be tense, to say the least.
The show also follows the Young family. Hanna Young, the matriarch, is the Cryers’ maid. She and her family live a modest existence and search for wealth in other forms such as virtue. The members of the Young family do not harbor their own secrets like their rich counterparts. Hanna Young, however, does have a daughter named Candace who holds the dark secrets of the Cryer family, and she is willing to use them to her advantage.
Indiewire announces that the show written, directed and produced by Perry will premiere on OWN Tuesday, May 28 at 9/8c. To keep up with the latest news about the show, see Twitter #HavesandHaveNots.
