According to The Hollywood Reporter, the prequel to Outlander has officially found its lead actors and is going into production. The Starz show, titled Blood of My Blood, is being filmed in Scotland.. The prequel will focus on the parents of the main characters from the original series.
In particular, The Hollywood Reporter said that Blood of My Blood will focus on Jamie and Claire’s parents. Jamie’s parents, Ellen Mackenzie and Brian Fraser, will be played by Harriet Slater (Pennyworth) and Jamie Roy (Your Boyfriend Is Mine) respectively. Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s parents, will be played by Hermione Corfield (We Hunt Together) and Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again).
The Hollywood Reporter highlighted a quote from Matthew B. Roberts (Caprica), the showrunner for both Outlander and Blood of My Blood. He said, “We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods, and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”
Along with Blood of My Blood going into production, Outlander is currently working on the seventh season of the show. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that this means the show is getting ready to close out as it has been confirmed that there will only be eight seasons. Around the time that Starz announced that Outlander would end at season eight, they began working on Blood of My Blood. The show then got an official series order in January of 2023.
The Hollywood Reporter said that the prequel is set to come from Sony Pictures Television. Roberts will executive produce along with Ronald D. Moore (For All Mankind) and Maril Davis (Insurrection) through Tall Ship Productions. Along with these names, Mining & Supply Company also works as an executive producer. Diana Gabaldon, the author of the original novels, is a consulting producer.
