Orphan Black is getting an aftershow. On Thursday April 14 a new show called After the Black will premiere following the season 4 premiere, breaking down the moment-by-moment drama of the thriller series that has captivated audiences.
Nobody knows the specific format for the show except that it’s hosted by Ajay Fry, Morgan Hoffman and Teddy Wilson. The trio host InnerSPACE, the leading sci fi show of Canada’s Space network. Don’t forget that Canada’s Chris Hadfield recently captivated audiences as the Commander of the International Space Station who improvised David Bowie. In Canada space, and science matter.
According to Deadline Innerspace has primarily focused on Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, and Being Human but there’s no reason they can’t add Orphan Black to their repertoire.
It’s assumed that this show will be similar to the Talking Dead aftershow – which happens to be the the second highest rating’s draw during its Sunday lineup – and include cast interviews, theories, debates, and first looks.
Here’s host Chris Hardwick leading cast members Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, and Lennie James through the finale of season 5:
The Talking Dead isn’t the first after-show by any means. TV fandoms have held debriefs in living rooms and bars since the inception of serialized television. Sports event features post-game shows, and Bravo loves their own boozy-floozy version of a post-show. But in the US, the dramatic realm put their own stamp on the idea when Hardwick brought the format to AMC’s Talking Bad, a spotlight on the final eight episodes of Breaking Bad. Since then viewers have jumped at the opportunity to hear more and hear it first.
After the Black will launch with Orphan Black stars Tatiana Maslany and Kevin Hanchard to discuss the Season 4 premiere. (It’s notable that each of the previous three seasons have received scores of 92%, 95%, and 85% from aggregated critics, so if you’re looking for a spring- or summer- binge-watch series, this is it.)
