During Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation, Noah Wyle (ER, Donnie Darko) revealed when The Pitt season three will take place, Deadline reported. Wyle confirmed that the upcoming season will be set in early November, shifting the series from the summer setting used in season two into colder weather and a new wave of medical emergencies.
The Pitt follows the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center across a single 15-hour hospital shift, with each episode unfolding in real time. Wyle stars as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, a senior attending physician balancing emergency room pressures with personal trauma and burnout.
Deadline notes executive producer John Wells (Shameless, Animal Kingdom) has reportedly pushed to maintain the show’s yearly production cycle moving forward. In a statement, Wells says, “We will be back in production in June, and plan to be back on the air again the same week in January with 15 episodes next year.”
The newly revealed November setting is expected to introduce a different atmosphere and a new range of emergency cases. Wyle previously teased that colder weather would allow the series to explore incidents involving black ice, heating failures, boiler explosions, and seasonal accidents, helping the show continue evolving its medical scenarios between seasons.
Season two of The Pitt took place during Fourth of July weekend and featured a 10-month time jump following the events of season one. With the inclusion of holidays, speculation arises that the new season will focus on either Thanksgiving or Veterans’ Day, given that The Pitt has many veteran characters.
mxdwn has previously covered the growing recognition surrounding the series and its cast ahead of awards season. One earlier report focused on Shawn Hatosy (Animal Kingdom, Southland), who plays Dr. Jack Abbot, being submitted for supporting actor and directing Emmy consideration for his work during season two.
As of now, HBO Max has not announced an official premiere date for season three. However, production is expected to begin this summer as the series prepares for its planned January 2027 return.
