Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) is bringing his new series Special Ops: Lioness to screens this summer on July 23. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will have A-listers among the cast like Zoe Saldaña (Avatar) and Morgan Freeman (Shawshank Redemption).
“You up for playing outside the lines?” Nicole Kidman asks in the trailer for Special Ops: Lioness to an undercover agent. Sheridan’s work writing on Denis Villenueve’s (Dune) Sicario shines through this trailer, offering a similar thriller feel. The upcoming show is about a CIA agent named Joe played by Zoe Saldaña who works for the Lioness Program. The head of this group is none other than Nicole Kidman (The Others) as Kaitlyn Meade and Michael Kelly (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) as Donald Westfield. When Saldaña hires Marine Raider Cruz, played by Laysla De Oliveira (In the Tall Grass), she tells her, “You have no family, you have no friends, you were abused until you gave yourself to me. Now you have a purpose and it is noble.” The two then charge into a “situation unfolding in real time,” where they must prevent a terrorist attack that is in the works.
The story is based off of a real life military program in the United States and the character that Morgan Freeman will play shall be a key role. The show will also have talented actors such as Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty) and Martin Donovan (Simple Men). Special Ops: Lioness is produced by 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment and is Taylor Sheridan’s slew of new content such as the Yellowstone spinoffs that include Mayor of Kingstown, 1923, 1883, and Tulsa King. Sheridan has other works in the making waiting to be released such as Land Man which will star Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade) and Lawmen: Bass Reeves starring Dennis Quaid (The Parent Trap).
