Nickelodeon announced this week that it would be debuting a new LEGO animated series in September depicting the events preceding the film Jurassic World (2015). The series LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nubar, confirmed for 13 episodes, will air on Nickelodeon in the 11:30am Saturday slot.
The events of Isla Nubar are confirmed to take place before the events of the 2015 film, with Owen Grady and Claire Dearing as the story’s main protagonists. The series will include all the classic tropes of the Jurassic Park franchise, including runaway dinosaurs and mysterious villains working to sabotage the park. This miniseries partnership between LEGO, Universal, and Nickelodeon will serve as the next entry into the roster of LEGO animations.
While much attention has been given to LEGO’s past contributions to the film industry with the The LEGO Movie franchise, LEGO has also had success in the past with its many animated TV series. Older TV specials from LEGO included the 2011 special LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace, which was nominated for and AACTA Award for Best Short Animation. More recently, LEGO has produced several TV series that are currently ongoing. Their original series Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu has been running since 2011, and received a recent (albeit moderately reviewed) film adaptation. In addition, LEGO Bionicle: The Journey to One, the 2016 original Netflix series, ran for two seasons with moderate reviews (6/10 on IMDb).
Legend of Isla Nubar will premiere September 14th at 11:30am on Nickelodeon. Additionally, a sneak peek episode will be made available on Sunday, August 25th on the Nickelodeon app, Nick On Demand, and the Nickelodeon YouTube channel. August 25th will also see the release of a special prequel to the miniseries titled LEGO Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit, also available on the Nick app. You can watch the trailer for LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nubar here:
