With Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival just over two weeks away, fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting any sort of footage from the new season. At the end of April, Showtime released teaser that technically involved footage from the new season, but was merely comprised of different scenic shots around the Washington town in which the show takes place. However eerie and atmospheric that teaser was, it still frustrated fans who were hoping to see footage of their favorite characters. The entire ad campaign for the series revival has seemed to push the meaning of the phrase “teaser trailer” to its limits, releasing virtually no information about what’s to be expected in Twin Peaks Season 3, despite the fact that a series of teaser trailers has been released over the course of the past few months.
Variety reported that Showtime has finally given viewers a glimpse of some footage of certain characters, with a new teaser dropping yesterday afternoon. The teaser, following the form of other ads for the show, is quite short and reveals nothing about what is to be expected plot-wise from Season 3. Nonetheless, it’s exciting to get a peek at what our favorite characters from Twin Peaks look like 25 years on from when we last saw them in Seasons 1 and 2, which first aired in 1990 and 1991 respectively.
Characters included in the teaser are Ed Hurley, Carl Rodd, Sarah Palmer (mother to the infamous Laura), Deputy Andy Brennan, Deputy Hawk, and, of course, FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper. The teaser includes virtually no dialogue, with the exception of Hawk uttering a rather serious, “Really.” The teaser gives no indication as to who he’s talking to.
The Season 3 cast will not just be limited to old fan favorites, however. Last year Variety also reported on the entirety of Season 3’s cast list and revealed that a shocking 217 cast members will be involved in the revival. New cast members will include such A-list actors as Laura Dern, Tim Roth, Amanda Seyfried, and Naomi Watts. The series will be written by original show creators David Lynch and Mark Frost, with Lynch set to direct all episodes as well.
Twin Peaks Season 3 will have a 2-hour premiere May 21st at 9 p.m. on Showtime. Seasons 1 and 2 and the prequel film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, can be viewed on Showtime’s online streaming service as well.
